Crop & Biocide Study Director (i2L Research, Girona)
We are a Contract Research Company with GEP certification based in the northern east of Spain, in Cornellà del Terri (Girona). We develop efficacy testing of products against pests and diseases in agriculture as well as products against urban pests. The products evaluations are carried out following the relevant guidelines and are for registration, for R+D+I or for marketing purposes.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design and carry out tests, both field and laboratory, following international test guidelines (OECD, EPPO, BPR and other). The tests are initially carried out in our facilities and later they can be scaled to real situations in crop fields or in premises with pest infestation.
- Proactive people with the ability to work independently in the design of the tests as well as their implementation.
- Take responsibility for excellent scientific outcome, timely delivery, and financial outcome of contracted studies.
- Supervise and guide co-workers according to the respective work level for all study types.
- Communicate with international clients and subcontracted study parts.
- General administrative work and laboratory tasks under GLP and general health & safety regulations.
Skills required
- An undergraduate BSc is required to understand the principles of the work. Any MSc or higher in Biology, Environment or Agronomy will be valued.
- Knowledge of the biology and breeding of arthropods and molluscs would be an advantage.
- Phytosanitary and/or the biocide applicator certificate will be valued.
- Agricultural, and livestock sector understanding.
- Good communication and sound service orientation skills.
- Well organised, flexible in work assignment and work schedule (availability to work on weekends in rotating shifts to be agreed when necessary to control the insect cultures and the study plants).
- No previous experience in this area is required because is a highly specific business, however it will be appraised to have worked following standardized procedure protocols or quality assurance protocols (SOP, ISO, etc.).
- Knowledge of English.
Availability of own vehicle is essential for travel, mainly within the province, to test fields and other test locations.

Biopesticides Trials Officer (i2L, Newcastle)
I2L Research Ltd are a successful and leading provider of scientific services and technical support to the crop protection industry and are looking to recruit a Biopesticides Trials Officer at our Newcastle office.
Ideally, we want to hear from candidates with a scientific background and/ or previous agricultural field trial and farming experience. However, training can be provided for the right candidate.
Responsibilities will include:
- Establish and manage agricultural trials in field, glasshouse and polytunnel conditions including planting, sowing and managing crops
- Liaising with local growers and farmers to manage agricultural field trials
- To assist in the application of plant protection products as required
- Assess the effects of agrochemicals, and other agricultural inputs, to trial plots (insect counts, disease cover, plant quality)
- Data input (Excel)
- Data analysis, interpretation and report writing
- Undertaking any other daily activities in accordance with company standards and needs
Skills required
- Candidates should have a relevant scientific background and/ or some previous agricultural and farming experience
- Knowledge of biopesticides and crop pests- and diseases
- Understanding of IPM, EPPO guidelines and GEP is advantageous
- Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
- Computer skills are important (ideally Excel, ARM, MS Word)
